Breathing and anxiety relief

Breathing is a natural act for every human and animal. What most of you do not know is that your breath is directly related to your state of mind. If you are stressed your breathing is erratic, hastened and irregular. When you are at peace your breath is naturally longer and calmer. What this means is that the regulation of breath is an effective means of controlling your mind from the grip of anxiety, nervous tension, stress and it also helps a great deal in alleviating mental disorders.

One great exercise is called "Nadi Shodhana" or alternate nostril breathing. It is an advanced form of pranayama or breath control but is very easy to master. You breathe in through your left nostril by blocking the right nostril with your thumb. You then block the left nostril with your middle and ring finger and breathe out through the right. You repeat the process from the right nostril where you breathe in by blocking the left and breathe out through the left by blocking the right. This will balance the left and right hemispheres of your brain and clear the channels where "prana" or life energy flows in your body. Recommended duration is 15 minutes at a time, 2 times a day. Once you get used to the flow you can really go deep within yourself and achieve a great sense of calm and peace. Disorders of the brain are caused by neuro transmitters and chemicals which are malfunctioning. This pranayama will balance the irregular functions of the chemicals of the brain. It is also reputed to cure brain tumors. Alzheimer's, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disorders and a host of other medical conditions.

Walking helps reduce Anxiety

Walking is an excellent and refreshing act of exercise for the mind and body. A brisk 30 minute walk is imperative to improving the functioning of the physiology of the human mind. Tests have been conducted at various medical institutions propounding the fact that walking and moderate to a high level of cardiovascular activity can even 'change the neuro-chemistry' of the brain. When blood flow is increased by constant exercise, it results in oxygen being transported to the cells in the brain. Serotonin, which is a key neuro-transmitter responsible for mental disorders and conditions like OCD, depression, bipolar disorder and a host of other neurological anomalies is also normalised with daily walking for upto a period of 30 minutes. The best time to walk is early in the morning, it is soothing to the psyche and the availability of cleaner air makes it more refreshing and detoxifying for the lungs. Those of you who can do 'vigorous' walking will benefit and experience quicker results according to research. Another way to improve oxygenation of blood is to take deep breaths while walking. This proves really beneficial for brain function and release from negative emotions. It will take anywhere from a month to three months to notice a definite change in your neurological conditions of anxiety, depression and other disorders. Get your shoes, wake up early and walk your self to a healthy mind!

Nutrition, Anxiety and Depression

Well, the brain is probably more sensitive to what you eat and what pills you take more than any other organ in the body. And certainly it's the first organ to feel the effects of that. So again, I'm most concerned with three areas actually:
1) Circulation. Obviously you have to get good blood circulation to the brain to feed the nutrients and also to get rid of the waste products.
2) Blood sugar regulation. Blood sugar is the brain's fuel. If the blood sugar is fluctuating, we may have bouts of depression.
3) And the third area is the level of neurotransmitters in the brain. These are the chemical messengers that send signals back and forth between nerve cells. And for quite a few number of years now from studies at MIT we know that you can influence these levels of neurotransmitters by certain foods. And supplementing with certain amino acids.

For example, a lot of antidepressants target Serotonin, one of the neurotransmitters. Serotonin gives rise to feelings of peacefulness and contentment. And you can influence serotonin levels by eating certain foods. Carbohydrates tend to increase levels of serotonin. But we have certain nutrients as well that help serotonin levels: niacin, for example.

Ancient Indian Healing Science - An Introduction

Ayurveda is an ancient healing science, known as the science of life. The aim of Ayurveda is to create emotional & physical health and to cure diseases. Most traditional therapies mask symptoms, while Ayurveda removes the root cause of disease. The greatest contribution of India to the world is her spiritual science. No civilization, however old it is, has ever attained the level of sophistication reached by the yogis and siddhas of India. The yogis and siddhas paid equal attention to the bodily existence while one is alive and also the disembodied existence after one dies. They also had knowledge of soul travel (out of body experience) while still in embodiment. They were the originators of the health science known as Ayurveda. This ancient healing art is thousands of years old, and the laws that govern it, are still valid and effective today.

Ayurveda, is a natural healing system that originated over 7,000 years ago, in India. Ayurveda was originally known to have been first developed and established by the great sages and rishis who developed India's original systems of meditation and Yoga, the spiritual sciences. The study of Ayurveda includes herbal medicine, dietetics, body work, surgery, psychology, and spirituality. It not only deals with medical science, but also with the social, ethical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual life of people. According to Ayurveda, a living creature is composed of soul, mind, and body. Unlike traditional medicine, Ayurveda does not offer a band aide to cover up the disease. Instead, it goes to the Root Cause of disease, which is the imbalances from life style, food, stress, toxins, or over work. Ayurveda is a natural antidote to disease as well as a powerful healer of stress. It can be applied to a wide range of diseases, as well as to emotional and mental issues.

Overcome Anxiety Naturally

As Featured On Ezine Articles

Personal Tips to overcome Anxiety and Panic attacks on a permanent basis without the use of Drugs. These tips are from my own experience as I practice them on a daily basis. Almost half the population in the world suffers from some form of Nervous Disorder or Brain Dysfunction. The sources of which could be Genetic as in the case of OCD or brought about by present circumstances in a persons life or imbalance of the chemical structure in the brain. I have been in the shoes of a Anxiety and Panic attack sufferer for years. It does not hinder my work or my life any more as much as it used to. The following activities and discipline helped me considerably to do away with a major part of my anxiety. This is an article from a Yogic point of view. It will help you too if you are disciplined, dedicated and devoted.
_______________________________________________________________
Cardiovascular exercise - Very important to have some form of exercise which makes you sweat and increase your heart rate as it releases "endorphins" which are termed as feel good hormones.

    2) Drink a lot of water - Water is a miracle drug, it has been termed the food of life. It flushes the body of toxins and acts as a buffer from Anxiety and Panic attacks. Water is also the best food for age-reversing and providing color and glow to the skin.

    3) Food - If you can and are disciplined, avoid meat and soda as much as possible as they excite the Nervous System and may act as a catalyst to the attack. Eat plenty of raw foods and try to get a serving of Green Juice Every Day. 8 glasses of water is essential for any mental related disorder

    4) Pranayama - The ancient Yogic art of breathing. I teach pranayama and can vouch for the fact that it helps a great deal to calm the mind. Alternate Nostril Breathing is the Number 1 exercise. Do it for a minimum of 10 minutes in the morning and evening. It balances the left and right brain and the ida and pingla nadis which are carriers of energy around the chakras. Even 5 minutes will calm your mind!

    5) Alcoholic beverages and Smoking - Should be a NO. I stopped smoking and drinking and it helped me considerably. Nicotine is a stimulant.

    6) Spirituality - Helps and gives you a sense of inner belief and power. Even MD's agree to the power of Prayer in healing illnesses.

7 Silence - This is extremely important. When tigers of worry and fear are chasing you, your only relief is the inner temple of silence. Stay silent for half an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. Longer if you can. You will feel its power and it will help you cope with life's battles. This is imperative to success in healing and control of panic and anxiety.

The other non-drug and non-hypnosis treatment that I am currently using to a great success is from this resource www.overcome-anxiety.net It offers a technique which is called the "One Move Technique" The summary of which is, instead of having fear of the panic or anxiety attack, you welcome it when it occurs. This changes the brain's response to it. Instead of aggravating panic, it dissipates the response to something much milder in your psycho-physiological makeup. These are my tips to overcome anxiety, panic attacks and phobias on a more permanent basis. Medication will never cure an illness, they are meant to treat the symptoms and not cure the cause. Good Luck and Thanks for reading!

How to overcome anxiety

Tips to Overcome Anxiety

Get rid of your anxieties and worries, move into the trance of calm and peace. This sentence would relate to approximately 90% of people in the world. With our hectic and overworked schedules we are bound to be stressed. These tensions could fall into anybody’s lap regardless of his age and any particular reason. These tensions and worries can be cured with just a little consciousness and self help. A few suggestions can help you overcome these anxieties and de-stress your self.

Steps

  1. Recognize the cause of your anxiety
  2. We get uncomfortable and start panicking only when we feel that some situation is unmanageable or difficult to manage. If you discover the reason for your tension, you have won half of the battle. Juana always felt uneasy whenever her boss gave her a deadline. Once she found out this problem, her next step was to find a solution for it.
  3. Think positive
“Billy will positively find a way to enter girl’s hostel if he wants to”. We should always keep the mode of positivism alive in us and trust our instincts. We grow up fixing our problems whether they are algorithms, science, accounts or competing with friends at high school. If you had not lost then there is no way you can lose now. So, pep up and think about finding a good resolution to your problem.
  4. Share your problem
At certain times just acknowledging the problem and being positive doesn’t help in keying out solutions. What you need to do is discuss your problem with a friend. This would not just unburden you but involve your friend in checking the way out.
  5. Light exercises and activity
Try some light exercise or a light sport. Deep breathing exercises like breathing in from one nostril and exhaling from the other would definitely relax you. Light sport like swimming or bicycling would indeed be refreshing and rejuvenating. Even meditation and yoga helps you to calm your nerves and chalks out all the stress.
  6. Divert yourself
Check out some latest movies and hot music at your nearest store. Watching them would take your mind away from tension and provide you time to compose yourself. Even your favorite show on T.V can click. You never know even some T.V shows can spell out the perfect answers to all your questions.
  7. Some light pills do the trick
There are several chill pills available at medical stores which can help you to relax temporarily.

Tips

  • You can apply some lavender oil to relax and de-stress your nerves. Just one drop near your lobes does wonders.
  • Avoid high caffeine drinks as they stimulate your system and pile on more stress instead of relaxation.
  • Add a dash of lemon in green tea to relax your nerves..
  • Try all simple remedies before taking any anti-stress pills. It’s always easy to start on them but almost impossible to stop.
  • For adults usually a combination of a light drug and remedies works more effectively.
  • Stay away from the cause of your anxiety and tension. As “prevention acts better than cure”.
  • In some women, anxiety may be caused (or worsened) by low hormone levels, most commonly progesterone...and progesterone levels drop in times of stress (such as the holidays). Progesterone helps keep serotonin levels from dropping too low, and low serotonin can cause anxiety & depression. Doctors can test for low progesterone and prescribe it (though many doctors are unaware of the link with anxiety-depression); it is even available without prescription, which gives you an idea how safe it is when used according to directions. Indications that anxiety may be progesterone related are: symptoms get worse in the two weeks before menses, during perimenopause/menopause, or after giving birth. Sometimes the symptoms are accompanied by severe mood swings and insomnia; some women may get more headaches/migraines. NOTE: synthetic progestins such as Provera, medroxyprogesterone, DepoProvera, and birth control pills can make these symptoms worse instead of better; we're talking about progesterone specifically, not its "substitutes". Progesterone is available as Progest cream (a good brand) without prescription, and as Prometrium capsules with prescription.

Warnings

  • These suggestions are suitable only for shorter periods of anxieties, where causes can be discovered and reasoned out. If problem persists for longer time please consult a medical advisor.
  • Even the lightest pills should be consumed after consulting a physician.
  • If these suggestions do not help, and nervousness still reflects in the behavior of the person at social gatherings. Then perhaps it is some kind of anxiety disorder calling for medical cure and not simple worry.
  • These measures do not stand-in for medical help, it may do you good in mild problems. Please consult a physician for severe attacks of phobia. Much pressure of anxiety and stress can have hazardous effects on nervous system and blood pressure. If not treated in time, your phobia can lead to substantial problems, social embarrassment and lack of confidence to face situations.
  • Keep working with all the techniques until you find what works best with your fears. This modus operandi will help you to stand against your fears and blow away your problem with time. Remember all techniques and ways have diverse effects on people and the results may vary from one person to other. Be patient and calm, no one can stop you from triumph in the battle except yourself.
A great self-training resource that helped me do away with most of my anxiety www.overcome-anxiety.net It is probably the best self-help course out there on the internet with a revolutionary new technique and exercises to get rid of anxiety without medication or hypnosis! The main method in that course is the "One Move Technique". Anxiety can be brought on in many ways. Obviously, the presence of stress in your life can make you have anxious thoughts. Many people who suffer from anxiety disorders occupy their minds with excessive worry. This can be worry about anything from health matters to job problems to world issues. However, there is a simple technique known as the "One Move Technique" that is so powerful in restoring yourself back to your former care free self. Its not about eliminating panic attacks but also getting your general anxiety level right back to zero without the use of any medication or alternative therapies. This technique is based on advanced psychology made simple for everyone to apply.
